Reese Witherspoon

Biography

A beautiful young performer, Witherspoon made her feature debut as 14-year old Dani, a girl in love with the same boy-next-door as her sister, in "The Man in the Moon" (1991) after winning a ten-state talent search.

The Nashville teen began acting and modeling locally at age seven. Witherspoon made her TV acting debut in the cable movie "Wildflower" (Lifetime, 1991), directed by Diane Keaton, in which she portrayed a girl who discovers an epileptic teenager (Patricia Arquette) held captive by her father.

Witherspoon made her leading lady debut (evading murderous poachers) in the Disney adventure film "A Far Off Place", filmed in the Kalahari Desert in 1993.

After a smaller role in the father/son drama "Jack the Bear" (1993), Reese played Wendy, a sensitive and hapless hostage in the controversial Gen-X satire "S.F.W." (1994).

Reese Witherspoon played the stalking victim of psycho Kiefer Sutherland in "Freeway" and a troubled daughter romanced by a psycho Mark Wahlberg in James Foley's "Fear" (both 1996).

Continuing her ascent to stardom, she turned in a wonderfully comic turn as the 90s bad girl who finds herself transported to a black-and-white sitcom world in "Pleasantville" (1998) and offered a sympathetic turn as the virginal prey of a teen seducer (Ryan Phillippe) in "Cruel Intentions" (1999) a modern spin on "Les Liaisons Dangereuses".
