Biography

Sexy Penelope burst into the American art houses with her performance in Bigas Lunas' "Jamon Jamon" (1992).

A lead in at least five films over a three-year period, Cruz's best known film role to date is the vestal virgin Luz in Ferdinand Trueba's Academy Award-winning comedy, "Belle Epoque" (1992).

She also earned notice as the lead in "The Girl of Your Dreams" and shifted to English-language roles in "Talk of Angels" and "The Hi-Lo Country" (all 1998).

Cruz also played in the fantasy romantic comedy "Twice Upon a Yesterday/If Only/The Man with Rain in His Shoe" (1998).

Her status as a rising international star was firmed when she landed the female lead of the screen version of "All the Pretty Horses" and the in the comedy "Woman on Top" (both 2000).

In 2001, Penelope portrayed the drug-addled wife of a cocaine dealer in "Blow," as well as the lead role in the romance "Captain Corelli's Mandolin".

Hot babe Cruz then starred opposite boyfriend Tom Cruise in the American "Open Your Eyes" remake "Vanilla Sky", playing the same role she had in the 1998 original.
