Biography

This perky actress had a rough few years in sitcoms and features before hitting the big time as Rachel on NBC's hugely popular "Friends". Aniston hailed from a showbiz family: her father John has appeared in the NBC soap "Days of Our Lives". She was active in NYC's off-Broadway theater scene before moving to Los Angeles in the late 1980s where she soon found a supporting role in the failed TV spin-off "Ferris Bueller" (NBC, 1990-1991).

Like her fellow "Friends", Aniston re-vitalized her film career, which up to that point had consisted of being menaced by a killer "Leprechaun" in the silly 1992 horror film of that name. She made a good second start with Edward Burns' "She's the One" (1996), giving a well-received performance as the wife of a young Wall Street shark (Mike McGlone).

Aniston continued in supporting roles, turning in an astringent performance in "'Til There Was You" (1997). She graduated to leading lady with the romantic comedy "Picture Perfect" (also 1997), wherein she enlists the aid of a young man (Jay Mohr) in order to win the affections of another (Kevin Bacon). Aniston also landed the key role of a pregnant woman who turns to her gay friend for help in "The Object of My Affection" (1998).
