Ashley Judd |
|
Biography Beautiful, delicate and fiercely intellectual performer who won critical praise for her portrayal of the strong-willed title character in "Ruby in Paradise" (1993), a film that won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Ashley Judd's mother Naomi and her older half-sister Wynonna became a country singing sensation while Ashley was still in school. Schools, actually: she grew up dirt-poor, attending 12 schools in 13 years in California and Kentucky before the Judds hit the big-time. By this time she was also playing a recurring role on the NBC series "Sisters" (as Swoosie Kurtz's daughter, 1991-94). She also appeared in the TV film "Till Death Do Us Part" (NBC, 1992). Judd made her Broadway debut in 1994 in the Roundabout Theater's revival of "Picnic". Cutting and bleaching her long, dark hair movie-star style, Judd appeared as a drug addict opposite Harvey Keitel in Wayne Wang's "Smoke", played Val Kilmer's adulterous wife in the crime drama "Heat" (both 1995), and played the pre-fame Marilyn Monroe in the 1996 HBO biopic "Norma and Marilyn". She was also featured opposite Luke Perry in the romance "Normal Life" (released direct-to-video, 1996) and appeared as the increasingly frustrated wife of a small-town lawyer in Joel Schumacher's adaptation of John Grisham's "A Time to Kill" (also 1996). |
